What is the Vision/Traction Organizer (V/TO)?

The Vision/Traction Organizer® (V/TO®) is the two-page strategic plan used in EOS®, the Entrepreneurial Operating System®. Page one is the vision: where the company is going and why. Page two is traction: how it gets there, down to this quarter's priorities. The leadership team writes it by answering eight questions.

What are the eight questions?

How often is the V/TO updated?

The leadership team, typically five to seven people, owns it and reviews it every quarter, when new Rocks are set. The 3-Year Picture and 1-Year Plan are refreshed each year; core values, Core Focus and the 10-Year Target rarely change. The whole company hears it at State of the Company meetings, because a plan only the leadership team has read isn't steering anyone.

Doctrine-free note: Vetta doesn't have a V/TO — there's no place in it for core values, a Core Focus, a 10-Year Target or a 1-Year Plan. It runs the bottom of page two, week to week: this quarter's goals with one owner each, a ranked issues list, and a live weekly meeting that works both. Keep your V/TO in a shared doc, and use the quarterly planning template to set this quarter's goals from it.

Run the meeting, not just the vocabulary

Vetta is a doctrine-free operating rhythm — it works for teams that run EOS, OKRs, or simple goals, in plain language, and runs the weekly review as a live, multiplayer meeting.
